Centaurea cyanus ‘Blue Boy’ (Bachelor Button) is one of those easy, cheerful flowers that instantly makes a garden feel more alive. These classic, true-blue blooms look right at home in cottage gardens, pollinator patches, and cutting beds—and they’re just as happy tucked into borders as they are sprinkled through a meadow-style planting. ‘Blue Boy’ is loved for its bright color, tidy habit, and dependable performance, even for first-time flower growers.
Plant a little, or plant a lot—either way, you’ll get a generous show of fringed, cornflower-blue blossoms that keep coming when you harvest regularly. Bachelor buttons are also a smart choice for low-input gardens: they’re resilient, quick to establish, and bloom readily with minimal fuss. If you’re building a cutting garden, you’ll appreciate their long, straight stems and the way their vivid color plays beautifully with whites, yellows, and soft pinks.
Did You Know?
Bachelor buttons are also known as cornflowers, and their iconic blue blooms have a long history in traditional gardens and floral symbolism. They’re a wonderful way to add bold color while supporting beneficial insects—one more reason we love mixing them into everyday garden spaces.
