Parrotia subaequalis is a gorgeous plant that is under-utilized. This Chinese Ironwood has the gray, tan and brown bark flaking interest that makes everyone love the Persian Ironwood, but has an even more striking fall color that includes bright pinks flashed in red and orange. This little known ironwood is spectacular and needs to be used more in the landscape and garden. Parrotia subaequalis may reach 25 ft in height and 20 ft in width in 15 years.
