Plant Profile
- Scientific Name: Oxalis regnellii
- Common Name: Green Shamrock, False Shamrock, Wood Sorrel
- Family: Oxalidaceae
- Native Range: South America
False Shamrock Care Guide
- Light: Prefers bright indirect light but can tolerate partial shade. Too much direct sunlight may scorch leaves.
- Water: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Reduce watering in winter when the plant enters dormancy.
- Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent root rot.
- Humidity: Thrives in average household humidity; no special humidity needs.
- Temperature: Best in 60-80°F (16-27°C).
- Pruning: Trim yellowing or dead leaves to maintain a neat appearance.
- Feeding: Fertilize once a month during spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer. No need to fertilize in winter.
- Propagation: Easily propagated by division of bulbs/tubers.
- Growth Habit: Clump-forming, bushy growth.
- Pests: Generally pest-resistant, but watch for aphids. Taking it outdoors seasonally can attract beneficial pollinators.
- Toxicity: Mildly toxic to pets due to oxalic acid, but generally safe for humans. Leaves are edible and have a tangy, citrus-like flavor.
